Haverstock Fencing Club: Epee performance coach opportunity
North London's premier epee fencing club is seeking a qualified self-employed epee coach for up to ten hours per week. They will work with our other coaches to provide high-level technical instruction and sparring supervision to our diverse membership, ranging from expert athletes to ambitious youth fencers.
Scope of work
The coaching requirement is for up to ten hours per week across up to three evenings at our modern facilities near Chalk Farm Underground Station:
- Tuesdays (18:00 – 22:00): Under 14 (U14) practice followed by short form one-on-one lessons for seniors during our competitive sparring session.
- Wednesdays (19:30 – 21:30): Leading training for Cadets (ages 14–16) and intermediate/beginner adult fencers.
- Thursdays ( 18:00 – 21:30): Under 14 practice followed by senior technical drill sessions and one-on-ones lessons.
Engagement terms
The coach must be self-employed and based in the UK within reasonable distance of the club. For the avoidance of doubt, this position is not an offer of employment. Haverstock Fencing Club is not able to offer employment contracts, nor can we assist overseas coaches in relocating to the UK.
- Service fee: An hourly contracting rate of £42 per hour.
- Mentoring: Alex Agrenich, our head coach, will provide formal mentoring and technical training as requested.
- Private Lesson Revenue: When available coaches may use the sports hall on Saturdays to host private lessons.
- Elite Environment: Join a "team of talented coaches" working in a high-performance setting that regularly sees success in the GB League and national rankings.
- Add on work: The coach will also have paid opportunities to support Haverstock fencers at competition.
- Professional Support: Work within a clearly defined governance structure where the committee provides suitable resources and maintains a safe, well-equipped training environment.
Qualifications
In accordance with our Coaches' Code of Conduct, candidates must meet the minimum standards to be a British Fencing Registered Coach, including:
Appearing on the British Fencing coaches register.
Recognised Coaching Qualification in Epee preferably up to level 3.
Valid Criminal Records Check (DBS).
Current First Aid and Safeguarding training.
Commitment to being a positive role model and ambassador for our inclusive community club.
