A touch of steel
Mini Metal is our programme for younger children who are ready to start training with electric fencing equipment, including a mesh mask, protective uniform and size zero metal blades. It enables them to build strength, confidence and develop more advanced technical skills and it opens up the world of age-based competitions, including regional and national series.
What is Mini Metal?
Mini metal introduces younger children to olympic fencing using equipment that is essentially just a smaller version of that used by adults. Our Mini Metal fencers must be at least nine years old, but every child is assessed on a case by case basis. In order for a child to join mini-metal we must be confident that they meet the following criteria:
If a child has not yet reached that level, we will recommend that they train with our Mini-Fencing group until they are ready to progress.
- They are mature enough to follow safely rules and complex technical instruction
- They are capable of putting on their uniform on in a timely manner
- They have enough arm strength to properly hold a size zero epee for the whole session
- They are resilient enough to comfortably endure hits from metal blades
If a child has not yet reached that level, we will recommend that they train with our Mini-Fencing group until they are ready to progress.
